About the Disaster Kingdom project: From the mind of @magicaltrashmountain,
Disaster Kingdom is a recontextualized digital and mixed media archive. It exists in the spaces where the traditional physical world and the metaverse become entangled, muddled…like where a river meets the sea. It’s an exploration of liminal spaces…between darkness and levity, fact and fiction, consciousness and subconsciousness, past and future, concrete and abstract.
Currently, the Disaster Kingdom project is divided into two subprojects:
1. The Disaster Kingdom Library District
2. Vignettes from Disaster Kingdom
The Disaster Kingdom Library District seeks to push the concept of NFT as art, creating unique curated experiences: using assemblage as archive as nonlinear narrative. It also seeks to preserve knowledge and visuals from the past, which would otherwise be lost to time and the elements.
Each work from the Disaster Kingdom Library District consists of 3 distinct elements:
1. a unique digital collage postcard from Disaster Kingdom (scanned from items in the artist’s vast personal archive of antique printed media).
2. an assemblage sculpture (composed of a figurine, a stack of antique books, and a cascade of colorful acrylic).
3. a digital archive of the books which have been sealed forever into the sculpture (downloadable for personal use by the person who buys the work. not for distribution in any way).
Combining these discarded, decaying, proletarian objects into a single artwork is a process of curation, preservation, and recontextualization; which elevates the finished product off the thrift store shelf, into the gallery, and immortality in the metaverse.
